Meet Charles Chakkalo, Joeyz Shopping’s co-founder, who offers guidance on business operations and ensures efficient logistical and inventory management that drives growth in the e-commerce industry. His motivation, experience, and support from his family turned Joeyz Shopping into a great shopping spot for Americans in both physical locations and online marketplace.

Why did you choose to become a business owner? What was your dream when you started your business?

I decided to be a business owner because of the control over my time. All these years later, I believe that being a business owner is more secure than being a salaried employee kind of job.

My dream was to have maximum time availability and to be a leader in the home goods space, as well as the e-commerce space. We are working our tails off, doing all we can to get there.

How did you start your business?

We started a business in 2016. As my brothers and I ran businesses online in high school, in the middle of college we thought, “Hey, let’s dump our life savings into this online thing and see where this goes.” We started Joeyz as a continuation (but operated independently) of our family business.

We bootstrapped this as brothers, giving it our all, and wearing extra layers so we didn’t have to turn on the heat. Thankfully, we can turn on the heat with our own Amazon, Walmart, and direct-to-consumer sites.

Today, we operate across both brick-and-mortar establishments and online platforms. Our focus is on serving hardworking Americans who value their earnings, and we deeply honor and acknowledge this aspect of our target market.

What do you wish you’d known before you started your business?

I wish I knew more about the workings of cash flow. How ACH works, the impact of inflation and interest rates on money sitting in the bank, inventory, etc., are all crucial parts of running a small business.

Can you pinpoint a factor that played a crucial role in providing assistance at the beginning?

Our Dad, a mound of retail experience and knowledge, is a real help to us in navigating the retail waters. We would not be where we are without him. Not only has he helped us directly with his input, but also by raising us to grind. Each one of us gives the business our all.

What is your biggest advantage over others?

Having family connections to quality home goods, we were able to form our own relationships and build our business that way. We became the newest generation of our family bringing quality home goods to consumers for an affordable price.

What advice would you give to your past self before opening your own business?

However high you think your ceiling is, raise it.
