Esther Campbell is the owner of Campbell Management Consulting LLC, a bookkeeping firm in business since 2010, located in Redding, CA. She and her team of three dedicated bookkeepers provide simplified and accurate bookkeeping for businesses that want to focus on what they love and not get stuck in the details.

Why did you choose to become a business owner?

I started my business because I saw friends struggle with understanding if they were profitable or not. I decided to take my knowledge and bring a simplified approach to bookkeeping to business owners. I help them not get stuck in the details of finances, and instead see where their money is going and how to better have it work for them and not against them.

How did you start your business?

I was approached by a friend who needed help putting together a profit and loss (P&L) statement in order to get money from the BP Oil Spill in 2009. They loved what I did so much that they asked if they could be my first client. Since that time, my business has grown through word of mouth where I service over 40 clients across the US.

What do you wish you’d known before you started your business?

That I am a lot more capable than I give myself credit for.

Can you name two things that helped you in the beginning?

Knowledge of Quickbooks and learning to say “yes” to the clients that serve me and my vision for my business.

What advice would you give to your past self before opening your own business?

Be willing to invest in a team before you need it. There is a saying “Hire for growth, not because of it” which allows you to choose the right people for your team instead of scrambling to cover your workload and taking on anyone.
